Do-it-yourself drain from plastic bottles. How to make drainage from plastic bottles with your own hands Drain from plastic bottles with your own hands

With the advent of plastic bottles in our everyday life, space for imagination has opened up. They build everything from them - toys, garden decorations, ladies' accessories, chandeliers, ottomans, even build summer houses. Speaking of houses, since there is a house with a roof, there should be a drain under it. Craft lovers can easily build a trough.

The first step is to measure the required perimeter under the roof of the house and the height of the wall. Based on the dimensions obtained, we prepare one and a half liter or two-liter bottles. You will need a container with a straight middle in the form of an even cylinder. To fasten pipe parts you will need:

  • furniture or powerful stationery stapler;
  • Staples;
  • scissors;
  • thin wire;
  • burner for making holes;
  • drill.
  1. We made measurements at the very beginning, and now we need to draw a simple drawing. Calculate the approximate number of bottles, roughly plan the slope of the chute.
  2. Then we prepare the containers - soak them in warm soapy water, take off all the labels, because it will not be beautiful at all if, over time, these pieces of paper will hang in tatters from your drain.
  3. Cut out the middle cylindrical part and cut on one side for the entire length. Get a rolled up roll.
  4. We connect the resulting parts with an overlap of up to 1 cm with a stapler. For greater reliability, instead of a stapler, you can sew the parts with wire, having previously made holes along the edges. Then they can be covered with something, even plasticine is suitable for the first time.
  5. The most important thing remains - to attach the drain to the roof. At regular intervals, we drill holes in the slate, and burn holes in the gutter with a soldering iron or a burner. It is necessary to calculate so that each hole is opposite each other. We fasten the gutter with wire.
  6. It's time to take on the tap to protect the walls from the flow of water. We cut off the neck from one bottle, leaving the bottom intact. This is a kind of turn, in the side of the container we cut a hole so that the drain pipe fits into it. And from another bottle we make a cylinder. We connect one to one all the bottles with cut bottoms. They snap together quite tightly, but for reliability we fasten the parts of the gutter.

That's all the wisdom, you will temporarily protect your house or cottage from excessive dampness.

Such a simple design, of course, cannot decorate a capital house. This is rather a temporary solution to the problem, but at the dacha, this device has been found by zealous owners in another very useful application. As a rule, in summer cottages there are interruptions in water all the time and every drop is worth its weight in gold. Therefore, a similar drain can be made in a country house, and the gutter can be brought into a large barrel. Rainwater is very beneficial for plants and in this way you will always have a supply of water.

A do-it-yourself drain from plastic bottles is a good option if it is not yet possible to build a more solid structure to drain water. He will be able to successfully serve for more than one month, and the owners will not have to urgently seek funds for its construction.

Why do you need drains

When building a residential building, the removal of water from the roof must be given increased attention. This allows you to significantly increase the life of the roof structure. A properly arranged drainage system will protect the foundation from excessive moisture, and will also prevent moisture from accumulating on the surface of the basement and on the walls outside.

Before proceeding with the manufacture of the gutter, draw at least the simplest drawing of the future design - this will greatly help you in its manufacture. Don't forget to plan for a slight slope of the gutter. Then you need to start calculating the approximate amount of plastic containers that you will need. Measure the bottles you will make from and calculate their number.

On modern residential buildings, the owners prefer to install plastic drainage systems. They are able to seriously compete with metal ones, since with very similar working properties they are much cheaper, more convenient to install and transport.

A properly executed water drainage system also has an aesthetic function, providing the building with a beautiful finished appearance. In the decorative design of the house, this is an important detail: it seems to emphasize the transition from the pediment to the facade, from the roof structure to the wall surface. When the drains are not installed correctly, the area adjacent to the house may be flooded with excessive rainfall. Drainage at the building can be either organized, where special drainage gutters are provided, or unorganized, when water flows from the roof as it pleases.

To protect the walls from precipitation, it is necessary to make a drain. Cut off the neck of one of the bottles, but do not touch the bottom. Make a hole on the side of the received part - it will have to fit a gutter that passes under the roof and collects rainfall.

Plastic bottles for the construction of a drain

After beverage manufacturers began to use plastic containers, real scope opened up for the imagination of craftsmen.

A lot of useful and pleasant things can be made from plastic bottles: garden decorations and funny toys, ladies' knick-knacks, furniture and chandeliers, even bottle garden houses are becoming not so rare. Home craftsmen can easily make a good drainage system from plastic containers. Any summer resident accumulates a lot of plastic bottles. If there are not enough, you can ask your neighbors for them. To understand exactly how much you need, measure the perimeter of the house under the edge of the roof and wall in height.

Bottles are better to choose those whose capacity is 1.5 liters. Their shape is almost like a cylinder. There should be no bends in the middle of the bottles. To work, you will need the following tools:

  • stationery stapler (preferably furniture) and staples to it;
  • thin wire;
  • scissors;
  • drill;
  • burner to make holes in the plastic.

How to collect a drain from bottles?

Prepare bottles for work. Soak them for a while in water with a little soap so that the paper labels get wet and fall off. Do not neglect this part of the work: there is nothing good in the fact that they will gradually peel off and hang from the finished drain like rags. At a plastic bottle, you need to cut a cylindrical part in the middle, then cut it lengthwise on one side. You should end up with a rolled up piece of plastic. Do this several times until you have the desired number of pieces.

The resulting parts overlap and secure with a stapler. For reliability, it is possible to make holes along the edges of the parts and pass the wire through them. These holes can be made along the very edge, and to be sure, they can also be covered with something.

When a part of the drain is assembled, you can fix it in place. In the roofing material, drill through holes at regular intervals, make the same holes in the gutter using a soldering iron or a burner. Calculate the distance between the holes so that when fastening they are opposite each other. Attach the gutter to the bottom of the roof and thread wire through the holes to pull them together. Each time, you will also have to wrap the plastic with wire so that it does not lose its shape under the weight of water.

On a few other bottles, cut off both the neck and the bottom to make a cylinder. Parts formed in this way, insert one into the other and fasten together. Then insert the upper end of the resulting structure into the plastic cylinder that ends the gutter. You can only cut off the bottom, but do not touch the neck. Put the parts upside down - you get a drainpipe.

When all the parts are assembled and fastened together, the drainage device can be considered complete. Even a person who is not particularly versed in construction is capable of making such a design. But it should be noted that the arrangement of a plastic drain can only be considered temporary, and at the first opportunity it is necessary to replace it with a more reliable material.

A large number of products in modern stores and supermarkets are packed in plastic containers. Without thinking about environmental pollution, we often dispose of it incorrectly, but meanwhile, with a little imagination, you can give unnecessary bottles a second life.
There are a lot of options for "crafts" from plastic bottles, but in this article we will look at how to make something useful for the home and garden, summer cottage, namely - gutter.

Preparatory work

Before you start work, you need to be sure that you have a sufficient number of plastic bottles at your disposal. You can calculate: the used part of the bottle will be its middle part about 20 centimeters long, we measure the length of the future drain and divide it by 20. As a result, we get the right amount of container.

Carefully inspect the prepared bottles: it is desirable that their surface is even, without patterns and grooves, as this can become an obstacle to water runoff, especially in winter, when, due to frost, water will accumulate and freeze in these recesses, thereby spoiling the product. In addition, all bottles must be the same size.

Bottle color it is desirable to choose dark, as water leaves smudges and deposits of mineral salts. On a light surface, they will be clearly visible, and will give the product a sloppy look.

Using plastic bottles for installing a drain

Often, the presence of a drain is associated not only with the collection of rainwater in household plots and cottages, but also with human safety. After all, a melted snow mass can collapse on its head in an instant, and the consequences will be very unpleasant, if not deplorable. Therefore, when there are no funds for a solid plastic or metal structure yet, a “home-made” made from plastic containers will also do, and for the year that it is guaranteed to serve you, you can find funds to install a new system.

It is also convenient that plastic bottles are almost always at hand, and it does not take much time to make a pouring chute from them. Plastic bottles are an easy material to work with, and if something didn’t work out or you didn’t like it, you can always redo or replace individual parts.

Materials and accessories

To make a plastic water outflow system, you will need a minimum of materials and tools:

  • Carefully selected plastic bottles in the right amount, and even a little more;
  • Furniture or large stationery stapler for connecting parts together with a sufficient number of staples;
  • Scissors and a sharp knife to separate the necessary parts from the bottle;
  • Thin wire for attaching the structure to the roof;
  • Awl or burner for making holes in plastic parts;
  • Drill (may be needed to drill holes in the roof material).

As you can see, the tools are simple and can be found in almost everyone's home. Of course, you can also use a sealant for greater reliability when fastening the parts of the drain, but, as practice shows, this is not necessary, since this will not extend the service life, and it is not rational to invest in temporary conveniences.

Installation of a drain from plastic bottles: a step-by-step diagram

So, we begin to collect our drain:

So, the installation is ready.

Advantages of the plastic gutter system

The advantages of our system are:

  • Low cost. This is one of the obvious advantages, because the materials required for the drain do not need to be bought in a store, except for a stapler, and even that has long been in the arsenal of any business executive;
  • Despite the unreliable appearance, the drain is quite can last you a whole year, having experienced all natural disasters, such as temperature changes, for example;
  • Besides, ice in plastic gutters begins to melt at the slightest thaw, which is not typical for metal waste systems;
  • Ease, the almost weightlessness of the drain, should also be attributed to the advantages, because a metal pipe that has collapsed on your head will cause significant damage to your health, which will not happen in the case of a plastic structure;
  • During the summer it is possible to bring the drain pipe into any container for collecting rainwater, which is so useful for watering plants and crops in the garden. Useful and economical!
  • Easy drain from plastic bottles can be made into a whole architectural composition, which will perfectly fit into the design of the infield.

Disadvantages of plastic products

Drainage from plastic bottles, of course, is not ideal:

  • Appearance such a product is not suitable for a capital structure: a house, a mansion or a country cottage;
  • Another significant disadvantage is fragility, since the service life is not more than one year;
  • Lightweight design, which we attributed to advantages, is also a disadvantage, because during a hurricane or just a strong wind, the drain can be torn off the roof and carried away in an unknown direction, which is still more difficult to do with its metal counterpart.

Care and repair

Whatever the gutter system is made of, timely maintenance is necessary to extend its service life.

For example, after rain, you need to check if the drain is clogged with branches, dry leaves, and other debris. Untimely cleaning of the drain can lead to its destruction. The place where the water flows also needs to be cleaned periodically, otherwise a whole swamp will form.

A drain from a plastic container is very easy to repair with your own hands, since it is all made of components, and you can easily replace only the part that is out of order. Repair, as well as the manufacture of the structure itself, will not require additional costs from you.

Differences from metal gutters

If we compare drains from plastic bottles with metal ones, we can distinguish several disadvantages of the first, for example:

The idea of making plastic gutters for personal plots and cottages does not end with a standard gutter. Having shown imagination, you can diversify even the most ordinary thing.

A creative approach to working with plastic bottles has given rise to an original drainage system called rain chain.

"Chains" can be very different: from multi-colored plastic buckets, vases and other beautiful bright things. You can attach such chains to the lowest point of the roof, and the water will flow down freely, where, by the way, you can put some kind of container.

When it rains, water flows down the chain with a pleasant murmur, and the fact that the sound of flowing water relaxes is a well-known fact.

This is how, with the help of ordinary plastic bottles and a little imagination, you can not only save the country house from dampness, but also decorate the backyard with an almost architectural composition.

After you have such a rain "chain", it will definitely go to your neighbors, only in a new, original form.

A gutter is a structure necessary for the drainage of water, which protects the walls from getting wet during rain and thaw. Manufacturers offer a wide range of gutters for the sewage system, but many summer residents prefer to make them on their own from scrap materials.

Necessary materials and tools

To independently build a drainage system for the house, you need to prepare the following material and tools:

  • 1.5- or 2-liter bottles, the quantity depends on the length of the drain and its shape;
  • furniture stapler with staples;
  • steel wire;
  • drill and scissors.

So that the spillway during operation does not create problems, it is necessary to select bottles according to this principle:

  1. All containers should have the same size - this will allow you to quickly assemble the system and make it more airtight.
  2. It is necessary to choose even cylinders, there should be no recesses, protrusions and embossed patterns. With uneven containers, the spillway will quickly become clogged with fallen leaves and dirt flowing from the roofs.
  3. It is necessary to remove the labels from the container - soak the bottles for a day in water and they will quickly peel off.

Step-by-step algorithm for building a drain

To install the spillway, you need to do all the work in stages:

  1. Measure the length of the future drain and draw up a design drawing. Based on the drawing, you can calculate the approximate number of bottles. You also need to calculate the angle of inclination of the gutter. If the distance is too long, then a horizontal gutter may not work due to the large difference between the upper and lower points, or the design of the weir may need to be changed.

  1. After all the details are thought out, you can start cutting the container - remove the bottom and neck and cut the middle part in half.
  2. Rectangular parts must be overlapped with each other. The distance of the connection strip is 1-1.5 cm. The elements are fastened together with a stapler.

    In the absence of a stapler, both connections can be pierced with an awl and fastened with thin wire.

  3. If the master thinks that water will seep through the connecting strips, then you can cover the holes with plasticine, and subsequently they will be fixed with dirt and become airtight.
  4. The assembled gutter is attached to a thin wooden rail with a stapler, which will not allow it to deform (or sheets of thin iron can be inserted inside).
  5. The gutter bottle gutter is assembled in 2-3 hours, and after that the structure can be mounted to the roof.

Installation and secure fastening

After the bottle structure is assembled, it must be attached to the roof. For installation it is better to use steel wire:

  1. Using a drill in the roofing, you need to drill holes and tie the gutter with wire. You can also hammer nails into the eaves and carry out installation from it.
  2. During installation, it is important to observe the angle of inclination - water should flow down the gutter to the downpipe, and through the pipe into the container. It is necessary to calculate the angle of inclination - 2 mm per 1 meter of the gutter. If dirt or leaves come with drains, then the angle should be increased to 4-5 mm.
  3. After installing the horizontal drain, it is necessary to mount the pipe so that water does not flow down the wall - cut off the bottom from 1 bottle and fix it with a stapler to the edge of the gutter. Attach the assembled waste pipe to the second edge of the bottle.

Results, pros and cons

Draining melted or rainwater from the roof, made from plastic bottles, has the following positive aspects:

  • zero cost - all material for construction can be found at home;
  • speed of construction - no more than 1 day;
  • You can develop and design a drain yourself, without involving specialists from outside.

Also, such a drain has its drawbacks.
